If you enjoy historical fiction full of appealing characters and a fast-moving plot, then ‘Under a Sky of Memories’ by Soraya M. Lane is for you. I read this captivating novel, based on real-life events, in a couple of sittings, as the story drew me in and I simply had to find out what happened to the main characters.

Without giving away too much of the story, it tells of three American nurses, from different backgrounds, who are shipped to Europe in World War II to care for injured soldiers. Their work was to help airlift the wounded to the safety of a military hospital in Sicily. However, one mission fails and they find themselves in peril. I say no more…

Soraya expertly weaves the backstories of the main characters into the text and develops the strong relationship the nurses have with one another. The atmosphere and tension of the seemingly hopeless situation they find themselves in are described in a believable way, and the romantic interests add to the appeal of the novel.

I will definitely be adding Soraya’s other novels to my reading list.
